Performance Comparison of Different Adaptive Modulation Schemes in Presence of Binary Convolution Encoder and Viterbi Decoder

Abstract:
ABSTRACT This paper illustrates the performance analysis of different existing adaptive modulation techniques using Viterbi decoder. Coding and decoding mechanisms are playing a vital role to improve the quality of transceiver. In this paper a comparative study of different adaptive modulation schemes like QAM, MSK, QPSK, BPSK, and DPSK are used in presence of Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) Channel to adapt transmission parameters and code rates are adjusted dynamically to use the channel capacity efficiently. Here, the optimum decoding of convolutionally encoded data stream is performed by Viterbi decoder. The MATLAB codes are executed for signal to noise ratio (Eb/No) with respect to bit error rate (BER) using binary convolution coding (BCC) and hard decision Viterbi decoding (HDVD) algorithm. The performance comparison is shown by forming a table for different adaptive modulation schemes. Keywords: Adaptive modulation, binary convolution coding, signal to noise ratio, Viterbi decoder
